2001 Texas Allred Reunion
October 6 & 7, 2001
Keller, Texas
50 Allreds from New Mexico, Utah, Texas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and North Carolina
attended the 3rd Annual Allred Reunion in Keller, Texas (Oct 6 &
7). Began as a way of getting the descendants of Ellena Allred and Calvin
Rowland together, this reunion has grown to include all Allreds with ties or
an interest in Texas Allred family history.
The first two years, the reunion was held in Quanah, Texas, but this year it
was moved to Keller which is 30 miles north of Ft. Worth putting it closer
to airports and motels.
The activities began Thursday evening as Mirion and
her husband, Skip Cloud, took everyone to the old Ft. Worth Stockyards to
see the historic sites and watch a long-horn cattle drive through the
streets of old Ft. Worth.
Friday, Mirion and Skip took a 15 passenger van load of Allreds to Grayson
and Fannin Counties where we visited several Allred gravesites and spent the
day discussing Allred family history.
Saturday and Sunday everyone met at the Senior Center in Keller for two
relaxing days of visiting, viewing displays and eating. Photo albumes,
family tree charts, general Allred family history displays, and research
reports were available for everyone to enjoy as we spent quality time
getting to know each other and forming lasting friendships.
Next year's reunion is being planned for the same time and place: October
in Keller. As plans are finalized, they will be published in the
newsletter and posted here on the AFO web site.

and his wife are buried. It was full of poison ivy, so the rest of us just
watched........from a safe distance.

On Saturday morning we visited the JFK Memorial in downtown Dallas, TX.
Our guide, Ron Rice, detailed everything that happened that fateful morning.
Standing on the exact site, it was easy to imagine what really happened that
day. That's the grassy knoll in the background.
