September 27, 2007
The East Coast Allred Family Association, Inc., met Thursday, September 27,
2007 at 6 o’clock at the Blue Mist Restaurant.
Members Present:
Linda Allred Cooper
Eddie Clay Allred
Carolyn Allred
Wallace Allred
Becky Allred Sexton
Harlan Sexton
Mildred Allred
Brian Allred
Franklin Allred
Jean LaCoss
Linda opened the meeting by relating there is ongoing research of the Diffies,
Trogdons, Yorks, and others to the Allred Family. Perhaps in the future there
will be evidence to connect these families to the Allreds.
Sunday, September 23rd at 3 o’clock was clean up day at the Allred-Trogdon
Cemetery. People have been using the cemetery and leaving trash. Linda Allred
Cooper, Jean LaCoss and Gina Smith cleaned up the cemetery. Eddie Clay Allred
is to speak to the Sheriff ‘s Office about checking on the cemetery from time to
time. Signs will be posted in the future relating to the use of the cemetery.
Linda then discussed the possibility of acquiring more land around the cemetery
as a buffer zone on the pasture side. This area could be used for future
burials. There has been an interest by some people about being buried in the
cemetery. This property is owned by Doug Voncannon. Franklin Allred and
Wallace Allred were selected to talk with Mr. Voncannon about donating land to
our association 30 feet and perhaps obtaining 20 feet. Our association would
give a tax credit for this transfer of land. Members approved this action.
Linda briefly discussed the four Allred brothers , John, Solomon, William and
Thomas who made their appearance in the land records of central North Carolina
in what is now Randolph County in 1750s. In the April 1992 issue of the
Allred Family Newsletter there is a research report by Dawnell Griffin in which
she states that she had found two documents that placed one of these four men
William Allred in Frederick County, Maryland prior to his move to North
Carolina. There is indication that William Allred’s land was in the vicinity
of what was know as Piles Delight which was located in the Antietam valley
between Sharpsburg and the Potomac River. The Battle of Antietam took place in
this area September 17, 1862. Could the William Allred who bought and sold land
in Frederick County, Maryland in 1752 be the same man who received a land grant
in 1762 in what is now Randolph County? Further research will shed more light
on these facts and circumstances. For further reading refer to the April 1992
issue of the
Allred Family Newsletter “Alred’s Purchase, Bedlam Green and Piles Delight” by
Mike Marshall.
Linda stated she has eleven people signed up for the trip to the 1840’s Village
on Saturday, October 27th in Hickory, North Carolina.
ECAFA Bank Account at present: $528.52.
The Theme for the 2008 Allred Reunion will be the Civil War. Linda stated
perhaps we could ask Terry Routh to set up an encampment during the reunion.
Wally Jarrell , an expert on the Civil War in Randolph County, a possible
speaker.
The next ECAFA meeting will Thursday, January 16, 2008, at the Blue Mist
Restaurant, at 6PM, Highway 64, Asheboro, NC.
There being no further business or discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectively submitted,
Becky Allred Sexton, Secretary
